We are an incorporated body set up by the combined churches in the area served by Kotara High School. The purpose of the Association is to provide Special Religious Education (SRE) at the school in accordance with the provisions of the NSW Education Act.
Christian SRE (Combined Churches) classes involve open discussion and interactive learning based on the authorised curriculum ‘Thing Faith’.
The goal of these classes is to provide students with opportunities to explore the bigger questions of life and gain a basic understanding of Christian beliefs and study contemporary issues related to the Christian faith.

The Kotara Christian Education Association Incorporated was formed in 1984 as churches from a wide range of denominations came together with the purpose of providing an effective program at Kotara High School under the provisions for Special Religious Education in schools. In 1985 the association appointed its first teacher, Pam Tierney, to teach Year 7 at Kotara High, thus beginning our long association with that school.
It was expanded to include years 7 and 8 in 1987. In 1988 we provided RE for years 7 – 9 and in 1989 we included year 10.
In 1999 we presented our first Seminar on “Values” to year 10. This was much appreciated by students and staff. We have plans in place to present many more of these fun and encouraging seminars.
We now have over 120 Prayer Partners from our supporting churches from the Presbyterian, Baptist, Roman Catholic and other mainline denominations who pray for the teachers and students of SRE.
The Kotara Christian Education Assoc. Inc. now employ a well trained teacher at Kotara High School to teach Christian SRE in fortnightly classes for students from year 7 -10,
Our objectives are: - 1) Provide Christian Education in secondary schools on behalf of the "participating churches" 2) Provide this education by employment of suitable teachers and mobilisation of suitable volunteers
3) Raise funds in support of secondary school Special Religious Education (SRE)
4) Uphold the doctrine of the Apostle's Creed in an environment that values unity amongst the church and use of the Bible as the basic text book.
Our Curriculum
The curriculum currently being used at Kotara High School is the authorised "Think Faith" curriculum which is approved by all the major Christian Denominations.
The curriculum that is designed to give the students a basic knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith and its relationship to contemporary teenage life.
The focus is on God's character and his plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, as revealed in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible; and the exploration of the consequences which flow from a Christian world view for our personal significance, our relationships with others and the decisions we make.

Our teacher is Claire Landers.
She was born in the United States of America into a Christian home.
Claire has travelled extensively serving as a missionary and studying at Bible college.
Currently Claire is studying for a degree in counselling and is thoroughly enjoying teaching scripture.
Why should I read the Bible?
Some people read it out of curiosity, only to discover a God who loves them. Who cares about them and wants to help them to be the best they can be. Who offers them a love that is unconditional, unchanging, and freely given. That love does not depend on who you are, what you do or how good you are.
God, through the Holy Spirit, wants to establish a personal relationship with us through prayer and for us to experience his love, forgiveness and guidance through life’s difficulties and challenging times. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Other people read it simply because no other book in history dares to do what the bible has done.
Declare the end from the beginning and get it right every single time.
Over 2000 prophecies fill its pages.
Hundreds have already been fulfilled with surgical precision.
The rise and fall of empires like Babylon, Persia and Greece in the book of Daniel hundreds of years before they happened.
The birth of Jesus foretold 700 years before it happened. Not just the place but the manner, the mission and even the betrayal price. Zec. 11:12 & 13.
His resurrection from the grave and His ascension witnessed by 500 of His followers.
Confirmed by his disciples, each of which suffered a horrible death because of their testimony.
The destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 predicted by Christ himself fulfilled exactly as he said.
No other so called holy book even comes close.
And let’s talk about science. People like to pit the bible against science, but true science agrees with the Bible every time.
Isiah 40:22 told us that the earth was round long before sailors proved it.
Job 26:7 said that God hangs the earth on nothing centuries before Newton described gravity
The bible speaks of the hydrological cycle before meteorologists ever put it in a textbook.
This isn’t a science textbook, but when it touches science it’s right.
And here’s the part you can see with your own eyes. The bible didn’t just predict the past. It spoke of the world you and I are living in today.
A global explosion of knowledge, nations raging calling good evil and evil good. Isa 5:20
A turning away from truth, people chasing teachers who tell them what their itching ears want to hear 2Tim4:3&4.
The regathering of Israel after centuries of being scattered and persecuted among the nations. Fulfilled in 1948.
So why should you believe the bible?
Because history proves it, science affirms it and the headlines confirm it.
How to enrol
Enrolling in SRE happens when you fill out your child's high school enrolment form and return it to your school. The enrolment form asks for your family’s religion. Your answer to this question will direct your child’s involvement in the SRE program at Kotara High School. If you simply write Christian your child will be included in the SRE programme.
If you’ve already completed your enrolment form and did not choose SRE, your child may still be involved. Simply send a letter to the Kotara High School Principal asking that your child be included in the SRE programme

If you use direct deposit; please email a copy of your payment advice together with your name and address to srekotara@gmail.com so that we can issue you with a tax receipt. Tax receipts are issued shortly after the close of each financial year and are sent to your email address.
Through Member Churches: Donations can be made through any of our member churches. Please give it directly to your church treasurer or office, indicating that it is a donation for the Kotara Christian Education Association.
